Holiday blessings come without tires

Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a website copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).

If you’re like me, you might (occasionally) forget how lucky you are to be self-employed. You might not remember how fortunate you are to make your own rules. You might lose sight of the freedoms you get to enjoy because you chose this path.

Are you lucky enough to work from a home office? I am.

Let’s count our blessings by comparing commutes with the rush hour warriors we know. For example, let’s look at my hubby’s trip to work vs. my own.

• My hubby’s commute: Ireland is covered in snow and ice. My husband left for work this morning at 6AM, in 10 degrees, to drive to work, a 45 minute journey – while I was still snuggling warmly in bed. His tire exploded and he had to change it (in the snow) on the side of the road. He got to work late for a meeting.

• My commute: I got up today at 7AM, excited to go to work. I put on some yoga pants and slippers, went downstairs, made coffee, and went to the office. No ice, no driving, and still warm, I was there at 7:08. Darn it, my pen ran out of ink. Phew, fortunately, I had another in my desk drawer.

I used to have a commute like his. I like mine much better.

Have some blessings to count? Let’s hear ‘em.
