I turned down 2 good jobs

Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a website copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).

This week, I did free consults for a technology website and a social media campaign. I had to decline both, even though I’m not too busy right now. I knew that I wouldn’t be the right fit, because I lack experience in both areas—and I also lack savviness.

While it’s great to recognize what we’re really good at—it can still be hard to admit where our strengths don’t lie.

One of the jobs was especially hard to turn down—because I like and respect the designer so much.

But, I think, sometimes respect means saying no.

Here’s the thing: People who we’re not a natural fit with—still might want us! That’s when we have to be strong and say no—so we can stay in the ring with our ideal prospects.

The more we detour, the harder it will be to drive through the most desirable towns on the journey.

But this doesn’t mean we should only stay in one place, only doing the same thing. Evolving along the journey is just as important to our success.

I’m getting pretty good at realizing where I don’t want to grow—but what about the opposite?

This week, I’m asking myself: Where DO I want to grow?
I’ll let you know, next week, what I figure out.

Have you considered this lately? Where do you want to grow?
