Note from Colleen: today's post comes from another member of the Marketing Mentor team, Marketing & Production Assistant Deidre Rienzo. Please welcome her to blog-land by leaving LOTS of comments. Don't disappoint me, people!
This time next year, I hope to be so dedicated to marketing my business that I only take time out from cold-calling to roll around in my large heaps of cash. My name is Deidre, and I am following the 2009 Grow Your Business Start Up Calendar.
My challenge is slightly different because I live in Ireland, and my Virtual Marketing Assistant business is based in the USA… and so are my clients. I won't have the opportunity to network in-person, (except on my occasional visits), but is this a reason to let my marketing fall to the wayside? Of course not! I will just have to take my online efforts up a notch.
I've made a lot of progress in my first year of business. I've acquired new clients, raised my rates, created a backed-up network for my work, moved from the kitchen table to an official home office with a desk, and (though I'm embarrassed to say it!) I even graduated from creating invoices manually in Microsoft Word to invoicing via Freshbooks (which I think is the most amazing thing since pizza delivery.)
What's going to change?
Well, my wake up time for one. Hitting snooze five times at 8am just isn't going to cut it if I'm going to commit myself to marketing my business. I'm sitting here at 7am thinking about the road ahead, and I've realized something- thinking isn't going to get me anywhere! (Well, you know what I mean!) I need to stop thinking and start doing. I've got to overcome the anxiety, fear, and hesitation and like Ilise says, stop letting feelings get in the way!
Yes, I feel anxious, but here's what I have to say to the anxiety: I hear you knocking at the door, but I'm not inviting you in for coffee anymore. Anxiety, find a new pal — because I've got work to do, and a business to grow!
To Colleen, and to all of you embarking on this marketing journey, let's get ready to kick some A**.
