Fake it till you make it

Posted by Deidre Rienzo on

Welcome to Week 23 of my adventure of following the Start Up Version of the Grow Your Business Marketing Plan + Calendar.  In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a virtual marketing assistant, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and I include a weekly recap at the end.

Every time I land in Ireland I have to fill out a landing card.  There is a spot where I need to put my “Occupation.”  This time I wrote “writer.”

I’m cautious about coining myself a "writer."  I write.  I’ve been writing since I could pick up a crayon.  But a "Writer" is witty, sharp, and impeccable.  A Writer is a word magician.  Can I live up to those standards?

In Colleen’s latest post, she mentions a mantra of the self-employed: fake it till you make it.  In my transition to becoming a writer, I think fake it till you make it has potential.

Deep breath…Time to practice my new mantra.

Fake it till you make it.

I do realize the possibility that I’m too hung up on titles and/or I put undue pressure on myself.

Fake it till you make it.

Maybe I can set my own standards that are more forgiving than my mind’s ideal.  Maybe I can start out being good, and work towards magical?

Fake it till you make it.

Have you been down this road?  Have you faked it till you made it? Does it work?

Week 23 Recap:  Every week is different, and this week I have very little to recap.  I've been catching up (but I'll spare you the excuses.)  I'm behind on my cold calling, but like I said last week, I'm going to make up for it.  Still enjoying my Biznik networking though.  I'm meeting so many really friendly and helpful people.  (Connect with me?)
