I have to confess.
Nearly three months ago, I was delighted to discover that a ready-to-go list of prospects had been created for me.
Well, I still haven’t reached out to those prospects.
It couldn’t be easier. The list was pretty much handed to me on a silver platter. I just have to send some emails. But in the busyness, 11 weeks have passed and I keep pushing it down the to-do list. (I’m calling myself less-than-nice names in my head right now.)
They choose persistence.
As for me—I can’t even get started!
But I was so inspired by these stories that it got me thinking—maybe persistence doesn’t have to be entirely consistent to work?
After all, even these success stories mention moments of doubt or deciding to quit…but what they did instead was keep on moving forward. Even if we give up, or fall off the wagon for 11 weeks, we can always un-give up. It’s really never too late to:
- reach out to those prospects
- follow up with a connection who you may have given up on
- finally update your website or one sheet or whatever
Most humans waver sometimes. We are imperfect; we can get derailed. But we can also pick up where we left off.
We can decide to persevere today.
8.5 years into self-employment, I’m starting to see that being successful isn’t about being perfect. I think it’s just about getting yourself back on track again and again—and maybe quicker than the last time.
