Success Stories:
Client: Sacia Friedman, photographer

The situation: After year, most of Sacia’s work came via word of mouth, referrals and some advertising. She had a list of clients and their email addresses but wasn’t doing anything with it. What she needed was help determining what to do, when and how.

Marketing Mentor’s role: With Sacia, we began by creating an informal marketing plan that she can follow from week to week. Her mentor is a sounding board for brainstorming ideas, and often tells her to do the things she already knows she should do. “Hearing it forces me to do it,” says Sacia. “You’re like my guilt.” And even though she doesn’t really like to write, Sacia knows it’s a very powerful marketing tool, so she’s been working with her mentor on article ideas for publication. Her mentor helps with editing.

Implementation: One of the marketing tools that Sacia has implemented is an email marketing campaign to keep in touch with existing and potential clients. “It has been successful in ways that I never imagined. My announcements let people know what I’ve accomplished. And to some it appears that I’ve accomplished a lot, which I guess I have. The perception is there, which is nice.”

Results: “There’s a ton of competition locally, but I’m getting my name out there and as a result, the perception of me has changed. People feel like they’re not hiring just anyone. I’m creating great work and a name for myself.

Here’s what Sacia has learned about herself: “I’m not as shy as I thought I was. I’ve learned about patience and that gentle persistence is so important because without it, you don’t get anywhere. Before I thought one call was enough and I’d be a pest if I tried again. Now I know that you have to keep contacting them, which is how I use my newsletter, which makes people feel closer to me. So the email newsletter has built a camaraderie between me and my list.”
