Too much deciding, too little DOING.

Posted by Deidre Rienzo on

Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a web copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).

In my life, decisions like “the red scarf?” or “the blue scarf?” can become whopping time-wasters and anxiety-inducers, especially when I’m busy. My head gets frazzled, my decision making abilities become mushier than usual, and I get stuck. Hung up. On nonsense. Just pick a freaking scarf, Deidre, and get out the door!

Especially now, with the frantic holiday season upon us, I’m noticing this character wobble more. I’m racing to meet my deadlines and urgently trying to exceed my yearly goal while attending all the holiday festivities and making sure people have nice Christmas presents.

It’s not really that much—but when each decision takes an eternity and drains my energy—it feels like A LOT. Decision-making depletes me.

If I could do one thing in 2013—it would be this:

Hire a magical elf to make all of my decisions for me.

Not to have to think about every possible outcome.
Or mull each decision over while pacing.
Or create an elaborate plan.

What? Magical, decision-making elves don’t exist?

At least Ilise’s Marketing Plan + eCalendar does. It gives you ONE SIMPLE THING to do every day to get the work you want. Ilise decided the best marketing tasks. The decision has been made! What a relief.

Now if only Ilise could select thoughtful Christmas presents for my entire family…
