Need a butt-kicking?

Posted by Deidre Rienzo on

Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a website copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).

I’m rich for retirement.

Just kidding. I’m not rich. But at least I’m (finally) saving.

If you’re a former corporate America worker like me, you may be spoiled by the ease of having had your old company handle your retirement plan (and keep the coffee break room stocked).

After years of working for myself without saving, I finally got my booty in line. Setting up my Fidelity ROTH IRA took 10 minutes.  And even though money isn’t my strong suit—the online process was simple and straightforward. (See my previous post, Ramen Noodles for Retirement, for details.)

I’m pleased to see the money piling up in my account, and while $200 a month isn’t much)—it’s way better than nothing. It adds up over time. (If you put in $200+ per month, or $2500 to start, there’s no fee.)

I’m not a financial wiz, but for those of you like me (who hear ROTH IRA and panic)—it’s easy! Things don’t need to be all or nothing. Even if you can’t save $1000 a month yet, save something. No HR department is going to handle it for you—but you can easily do it yourself.

Are you saving?

If you’re not—please consider this a butt-kicking.
