Maybe leave behinds aren’t so important?

As part of the research for my new article on the evolution of a creative business, “From Start to Smart,” coming out in the September edition of HOW, I asked, “What did you do early on that you don't need to do anymore?”

Designer, Heather Parlato wrote: "I no longer push promotion so hard. I used to create all kinds of leave-behinds and postcards, and try to gain recognition with a general audience. Instead, I learned that it's more fulfilling and worthwhile to promote with content, so I put energy into my site, guest-blogging, and creating events people want to attend instead. It's turned promotion into activities I also enjoy."
