Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a website copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).
I had a rough week last week. Stress, isolation, and lack of balance all built up. I felt like I was losing my mind and I wanted to quit. So I blogged about it. After all, self-employment isn’t all sunshine and lollipops. After I posted, the outpouring of support I got was tremendous.
Sometimes, it’s easy to think we’re alone. But there are so many others like us, sitting in their offices, working on their own, experiencing the same exact struggles. I was reminded that if we put out our feelers, suddenly we discover that we’re not alone at all!
This is why I can’t wait for this year’s Creative Freelancer Conference in Chicago. I went last year, and it was beyond words. I finally felt legit, like a real business person instead of a silly girl who called herself a “writer” and wore pajamas too often during the day. I learned a ton, and most of all, I made great connections with people like me. There is nothing like getting to know other creatives who “get it.” I felt such a sense of camaraderie that it’s hard to describe. Some of the people I met have even become friends!
I’m a people-person. People give me energy. And like last year, I have no doubt that the 2011 CFC will supply me with plenty of energy and inspiration. I can’t wait ‘til Chicago!
I’m going where the people are. And I hope to meet you there!
