Wow, I was gob-smacked.
I was not expecting Gary Vaynerchuk to speak about what it really takes to achieve in life.
I was aware of his “brand” — I knew he was a big deal to a lot of people. But I think I confused him with someone else whose name starts with “G” (I’m not even sure who). So when I heard he was speaking at the NJ Tech Meet Up, I bought my ticket so I could see what all the fuss is about.
I must have had some expectation, because he exceeded it.
There was no fluff. He was searingly honest, especially about himself. And he emphasized the importance of self awareness, seeing yourself for what you really are, not what you wish you were.
He calls a potato a potato, especially when it comes to “entrepreneurs.” He talked about how easy it is to say you’re an “entrepreneur” these days — and saying it isn’t being one. Most are fake, that was his message. Made me rethink how I see myself — I am certainly not an entrepreneur by his definition.
I have to get up earlier and do more. I have to write more. I have to focus better. It’s not about “working smarter,” he said. It is about putting in the hours. That’s the message most people don’t want to hear. If you aren’t putting in the hours it takes, you’re not going to make it.
Gotta get back to work…but if you want to watch, it is posted here.
