Hi, I'm Deidre. In my posts, I talk about my voyage down the road of self-employment as a website copywriter, my achievements and roadblocks along the way, and what I’m learning as I go (with Marketing Mentor as my guide).
Today I want to tell you about my buddy, Kara Smith, from Kara Smith Design.
I met Kara (virtually) two and a half years ago when we did Ilise’s Beginner Marketing Group and got paired as buddies. (Ilise pairs group members with a buddy to talk to on alternate weeks of the big group call.)
Even though the group is over, we’ve continued to talk regularly ever since. She knows where I came from and where I’m going, and she knows my struggles and helps me overcome them.
We talk about everything. Things like: saving for retirement, fitting in exercise, networking, money and clients. In a previous post, Kara shared how she gets (amazing) customer feedback. (link) We’ve defined our markets together, created our websites and one sheets, and attacked direct outreach. She even designed my logo.
Today, we kick each other’s butts, and support each other, as necessary. We grow together and we celebrate each other’s successes … and we still keep each other accountable and motivated. For me, the marketing group had a number of ongoing benefits—Kara being one of the biggest.
Her dedication inspires me, and her ability to “do it all” is unreal. With two small children, she balances being a mom (and a mom taxi) with running a business, being involved in her community, and keeping her family fed (with amazing cooking skills) and cared for.
After all these years of talking, it feels like we’ve known each other forever, but have never met in person. We are finally meeting at this year’s CFC, (June 23-24 in Chicago)!
Now, I can’t guarantee you’ll get a buddy as amazing as mine, but I know Ilise will try to match you up with compatibility and learning potential in mind. If you need a buddy, there is a new group starting May 2nd.
